Hello Everyone.

I have been living in the city on and off for years but until now have never had a car here. Tomorrow I pick up my car and am in need of parking.

Obviously there are cars lining each and every street so these people aren't paying for garages. Can any of you provide good places to find parking. I live on 102 & Lex... I have no problem parking it anywhere in manhattan... Are there particular streets that dont require you moving the car on Tuesdays and Thursdays for instance....Also what do people do when you move them? I dont get where they put their cars for two hours...are you running back and forth from work to move it back?

Ideally I would love to find a spot way up town (not afraid of theft) where I can leave without having to move it all the time.

WHy any non-wealthy person not enjoying the benefits of a private garage would own a car in Manhattan I do not understand.

In short, hell yes you're going to be running back and forth to move your car, and still getting big stacks of tickets.

The easy answer is to rent a garage space. I think there have been a few recommendations on this board in the past for relatively inexpensive garages in Manhattan (which is not to say they are actually inexpensive) -- possibly upper Manhattan, or maybe it was the Bronx.

Negotiate with Garage/lot owners and uptown you can generally get rates for about $200 or so a month if you sign in long term/pay in advance, etc.

You can shuffle twice a week, but you're not in a good area for that as the spots ARE limited.

I've done it before and lasted 15 months or so with getting only 3-4 tickets which really isn't bad... but I'd go grocery shopping during the 90 minutes period of street cleaning. You'd be suprised how many days they don't do ASP because of strange holidays no one has ever heard of.

You wouldn't be surprised however, by the amount of times they ticket you for being in the ASP spots during street cleaning, but NO ONE came by to even bother to clean the streets.

The real solution though is to find the closest NYCHA project to you, and sign up for their parking- which ranges from $100 to $650 a year for non-resident parking. Just be forewarned you might be on the waitlist for YEARS, while some are much faster.

LMAO!

Do you, in good mind, have expectation that anyone with such knowledge, in a city where people pay five and six figures for a parking space, are going to share such information with YOU and EVERYONE reading this forum???

Afterwhich, said info would serve YOU how, when everyone reading will beat you to the spot!!

Consequently, you will be in no better circumstance than at present without such knowledge.

Send me $500, cash or money order, THEN I'll tell you. [Why is there no 'handout' smiley?!]

Boy, are in for a rude awakening. Taking bets for how long before the OP gives up the car, or gives in and rents a space.

Wanna start a Pool?
