Didn't I say kelly and bloomberg were going to latch on to this statistic... i should've followed with millions of simple minded new yorkers will actually believe this statistic... thank you jjbradley for confirming this future point...

That murder rate is remarkably low compared to some other cities. Philadelphia had 306 murders last year with a city population slightly smaller than Manhattan. Detroit had 20 people dead in 10 days at the end of August bringing the tally up to 261 by the end of August. Detroit has a population that is only 20% larger than Staten Island.
