In just about every pizzeria I have come across with $1.00 slices , all while offering more expensive slices

( with additional various toppings) ,usually sell out mostly of there $1.00 slice offerings.

Being that they are located in manhattan how do these businesses remain profitable if a good chunk of

their profit is from $ 1.00 slices?

Volume. If they sell enough then they make a profit.

I've never had a one dollar slice that I liked. Hell, Pizza Hut or Domino's with the works is way more palatable than that dollar piece of crap, you get what you pay for. Cheap ingredients and volume is how they make their $$$. I'll take one of those hot dog/juice spots whenever I need stupidly cheap food in the city, I have a soft spot for those.

I have weird taste buds, because I actually prefer 99-cent pizza to boutique pizzas or anything in between. It helps if you sprinkle on some Parmesan.

They use cheaper ingredients. They're a lot more lightweight and you can actually taste the difference with the cheese.

They do a high volume business to make a good profit. Most of the dollar slice places skimp a bit on the cheese and sometimes the sauce as well. A lot of those places have the two slice plus a twelve ounce soda for $2.75 special, including that little place on 43rd just off 8th. It's not really horrible pizza if you doctor it up a bit. I usually douse it with parmesan and oregano.

I think some people literally live off those dollar slices. They've gone as low as a quarter in some parts of the city for limited times.
