How about you go get a job while your waiting instead of costing those of us with jobs more money from our paychecks
I have been working for the last 25 years with NO BREAK this is an insurance that my last employer pays into so that I can collect at this time. I am tired of starting over at a company that will be merged, downsized, moved over seas or acquired. My mortgage is still getting paid and my wife is holding down the fort! Further more I DON't have to explain a thing to you!!!! You got hired in Dec of 2010 so unless you have info to assist the ones that are waiting keep your comments to yourself. Thank you!!!
Can we move along now? Or would anyone else like to reply to this nonsense and drag it further into the mire? Are you all six years old?
The 30 days of days has lapsed for the last class and they are now enjoying the fun of bouncing around shifts and being sent out of town. Best of luck to them. They also got to enjoy their first taste of 12 hours in a spreader recently. Week 1 is coming...time to start counting down to those first vacations of the year. Well earned by all after Sandy, I'm sure.

How many do they typically call at once? Also, is there an age limit for initial hires?
If you go by this past year, they call a 3 to 1 ratio to be processed, I think you have to be 21 to get on, since you have to be 21 to drive across state line with a class b
Yeah now you have to be 21 at time of hiring. You were able to take the test before then though, but I've heard they wish to change that too. But at time of final processing you must be 21.
And yeah the list seemed to move somewhere between a 2:1 and 3:1 ratio. I also would not be very optimistic to get into the 4000s with only one year left when they didn't get to the 3000s yet.
There were a ton of hires in 93 that can soon retire and they will have the 2010 blizzard and Sandy money to bank on if they do...but there's no guarantee they will leave with the economy the way it is.
At this point many of you should be looking toward the next test. And my advice to you if you're serious is to SAVE UP NOW and get yourself enough to go take the CDL on your own and get the CDL. yes, the training DSNY provides is great, but is slow and crowded and can cost you seniority. I have two people in my garage with higher list number than mine but they had their CDL and got into the class before mine. Now imagine what if their class had been the last one...I would have not been hired because I couldn't get my CDL quickly enough. I was lucky...don't rely on luck.
After that REGISTER IMMEDIATELY. They use registration date for the tests to break ties apparently. I was unaware of that. I thought it was SS#s but it's not.
Third...take practice tests. LOTS. With just the 5 point residency credit, the highest you can get is 105. That puts you in the top 250 only. If you were to get anything wrong...the next highest score was 103.75. That can drop you from 250 to 680 on the list. Get another thing wrong and you can drop to 102.50. (That was me). That score ranged from 681 on the list alllllllllll the way to 1416.So by getting 1 extra question right, you guarantee yourself at least 800ish list numbers. To be even number 4000 you would have gotten a score of 98.75 or less.
I bet 98.75 sounded like an awesome score didn't it? It is...just not for a list with 29276 peeps on it.
