Members of the National Guard will be distributing food and water to the hardest hit areas of the city (Coney Island, Staten Island and Chinatown, I believe). NYC Public schools are expected to reopen on Monday. AT&T is sending pod trucks to help people recharge their phones.

The New York Public Library has sustained virtually no structural damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy; any minor damage was repaired very quickly by the Library's Facilities team. As a result, 62 branches (including six that were not open on Nov. 1) will be open on November 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. But please note, due to power outages, services will vary location to location.

7 subway service is running between Main Street and 74th Street/Roosevelt Avenue. From there commuters can switch to F or M trains to go into Manhattan.

Also there is NJ Transit rail service along the Northeast corridor, but not on any of the other NJ Transit rail lines due to a power failure: Power failure takes out 3 NJ Transit lines - SFGate
