In the past 8 months I have signed new leases with 3 tenants, all of whom are escaping Bushwick for the greener pastures of Mott Haven. I have never been to Bushwick, however the little I know about it, it sounds very similar to Mott Haven (demographics at least). The tenants have really spoken poorly of Bushwick, and claim Mott Haven is significantly better...and I find that hard to believe. They have also stated that there is a bed bug epidemic in Williamsburg/Bushwick and there are many people trying to get out.

My 3 new tenants are as follows:

1. A white late 20s something couple moved into a 2 bedroom.
2. A mulatto young lady from North Carolina moved to a studio.
3. A couple of white 20 something ladies, one from Virginia, the other from Tennessee, moved into a 3 bedroom.

Anyone have any opinions on this...is this an anomoly/anecdotal or is there a real exodus from Bushwick?

I hope no one brings that bed bug epidemic with them to Mott Haven!

Long term, there will be more affluent people moving into Bushwick than people moving out. Maybe MH is just providing an alternative but well-located real estate in the city is scarce which will drive demand.

The bedbug epidemic in Williamsburg and Bushwick has been raging for years.I have mentioned it in posts going back at least 3 years. It's so bad I doubt it will go away unless there is a fire like the one in Breezy Point.

Mott Haven is much cheaper than Bushwick at the moment.

They prob figured out mott haven vs bushwick not a huge difference except one is cheaper because its not as hyped. Sometimes transplants do a better job of not being clouded by the hype.

more like burned and learned. I was going to say once bitten twice shy but bedbugs were mentioned (I don't wanna come off as facetious)

But wait... I thought Bushwick was currently Northside Williamsburg circa 2005??? Isn't that what everyones been screaming at the top of their lungs... I'm shocked. Thanks grimace for the heads up on this thread... Only further confirmation of what i've been saying for the longest... Subjective opinions with motivations behind their posts however will once again try to falsely interpret my posts as more hipster bashing once again...

Also depends on WHERE in Bushwick they were. Parts by the J train are not as safe as some areas by the L train, and even then, the closer you get to Broadway Junction on the L, the worse it is.

One of my old co-workers had moved to Bushwick an was paying $1100 for a studio on one of the worst blocks. So I could see why some would want to leave.
