Btw, just to be clear mermaid's referring to the color of the map on the hurricane evac map referred to on the Half Sigma site.

Basically the woman drove from an area which wasn't an evacuation zone at all into a Zone A (worst and most dangerous area). sounds like she got some water in her house an went into a panic. Probably went the most familiar way, just like people in fires go out the most familiar way vs. looking for the closest fire exit.

Yes- I knew right away. Only huffy people who are easily offended would misread that.

I wish I could have just edited an old post, but it can't be done.

The Wall St Journal seems to have the most facts regarding this case and I just wanted to add the links to the articles here so it can be archived.

As Floodwaters Recede, Sandy's Death Toll Grows - WSJ.com

Crews Find Bodies of 2 Boys Missing Since Storm - WSJ.com

These are only two of the many factual accounts that can be found in the WSJ.

It's so, so sad, no matter how you slice it. That poor mother.

So basically she was home alone with her sons and panicked when the house lost power and began flooding. Scared people aren't always rational. Such a sad story.

She did the best she could with what she knew -- and thought -- at the time.
