How bad is traffic on the Tappen Zee during rush hour normally and it is any worse since hurricane Sandy?

I need to get to New England from south Jersey and refuse to go GW/I-95. Would 5p on Weds night be better or worse than Thurs morning at 7a?

Or maybe 287 to 84 would be less hassle although it's a longer distance?

Thanks in advance!

Your problem at 5PM on a weekday will not be the Tappan Zee because you would be against rush hour; however, if you have to use 95 in Southern CT, that can be a very difficult drive during rush hour.

Take 287 to the TZ to 684 to 84 to Hartford and go from there. Unless you are trying to get someplace south of New Haven, then you're pretty well hosed no matter what.

I drive that route very regularly--where in New England are you headed?

Take the route I told you above, stay on 84 through Storrs to the Mass Pike then east to the Worcester exit.
