I will be in NYC next week for 3 to 4 nights. Don't really want to spend too much on hotel in Manhattan. Does anyone know where to find a clean place (could be a motel, someone's house/room, student dorm, etc.) in a safe neighborhood for a reasonable price?
I would prefere in Manhattan (maybe Queens if close to transportation) since I have obligation during day time in Manhattan and is very time sensative (so don't want to spend too much time on commute).
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

www.cosmohotel.com

The Cosmopilitan in Tirbeca hands down. VERY reasonable rates, very clean rooms, close to all the major subway stops.

I have a friend from the Netherlands who swears by the Big Apple Hostel. (I don't know if I'm allowed to posts links here, but it's just Big Apple Hostel and .com). It's totally no frills, - but it's clean and VERY cheap and right in the heart of Times Square. So if you're just looking for a clean, safe place to crash that's very cheap, that's a good bet.
