Yup. Reading to a kid is probably the Number 1 best thing a parent can do after providing basic needs.

Not that I think kids should be watching TV all day, but what's with your hate for Dora? It seems to fit in with the rest of the "slightly educational" children's shows.

All I have to say is, "turn the wheel". Parents will know what I'm talking about...

Maybe the quality has sunk from years back when my little sister would watch it.

People excel what they're naturally good at. For example, if you have a nice physique genetically, you're probably going to go to the gym cause you'll get results quick and its fun because you know you're above average at it. Now if you're struggling to do algebra, understand basic chemistry concepts, memorize 100 vocabulary words a week, etc. you're probably not going to care about those subjects in school and do poorly. Nature is king, not nurture.

People like to talk role models with public figures but in reality the #1 role model for kids and it's not even close, are their parents. The kids will never show interest in algebra, chem, vocab, etc.. unless the parents show an interest and promote their understanding and learning of it (and from a very very young age). The school can't instill this in the kid, the kid has to show up with it already. That's the heart of the "inequality" here, the kids' parents haven't set them up for success

Black and Latino parents have to engage with their children in explaining how to assess and critique the world around them. Who or what benefits from them being uneducated? What systems are set up to benefit from their failure in school?

https://nypost.com/2019/09/14/maspet...ting-teachers/

Recently with the cheating scandal, I'm talking about the NYC Public schools where they help black and latino kids with cheating on reagents exams, grades, etc just to make the school look like they are excelling.

That's gonna backfire eventually. If these kids were to get into good universities through this large entitlement cheating process. They will get outted soon if they can't keep up with the academic level in private colleges.

It's one thing to cheat to get good grades but if you matchup to the level of competency expected at the college level. Profs will flunk you and eventually you'll lose scholarships and forced to dropout. Unless you get into a sports program and get propped up.

This is why many don't get good jobs in real life when they fail to complete their degree or have the desired majors that tech companies desire.

This is the absolutely truest thing ever. The time to have kids really has nothing to do with the right house, making enough money, being in the best school district, etc etc.The only 'perfect' time to have kids is when you are willing and comfortable making the the biggest choice you'll ever make in your life -- and one with absolutely no guarantee how it will turn out. Having kids is a giant leap of faith.

Passing regular high school classes should not be difficult.
