Can anyone give me an idea how safe/dangerous it would be for a mid-20's woman to work in East Harlem? I see it had the highest murder rate in Manhattan last year, but don't know if that's confined to one area.
The job would be in a school (but not a teacher), so mostly during the day but may spill into night at times.
I see that, but it covers a pretty wide area. Also, this would be right on the edge of the Pleasant Avenue area, which is yellow. Just wondering if anyone has any specifics?

117th is hood but u would be fine just working there. its not like random people just get shot for no reason.

I've read mostly positive things about Pleasant Avenue on this board. I'm pretty sure that soon someone with inside info will chime in. As for me, personally I dislike East Harlem and have not been down there for a long time.
the pleasant area is OK during times in which the mall is busy with people from all over manhattan. however, i would be somewhat apprehensive walking around the area in the early morning and at night. i've heard and read about some bad experiences. i'm looking for a particular thread right now that i read a couple of months ago, but can't seem to find it
