The general income tax (federal) doesn't have that itemized. You know how much is doing to social security (that's for your own benefit in old age), and medicare. You know how much is going to the state unemployment insurance (again, for your own benefit in case you lose your job or income through no fault of your own).

But honestly no one would know much they are personally losing to welfare programs, because the majority of federal and state income taxes are not itemized that way.

Exactly. But people complaining how welfare is taking food out of their mouth. Show me what u can't afford because of these taxpayer-funded social programs. You don't even know.

The fact that they aren't accounted for in a way which makes a definitive answer that question possible does not make the objection invalid. Fact is, there is a cost to those programs, and that cost is paid for by those who are paying taxes.
