There's actually no solid evidence suggesting that the Soviet union had anything to do with Allende's election. If you knew some Chilean history you would know that Allende ran once before against a centrist (Frei Montalva) and lost to him. He ran a second time, and won by such a small margin that the supreme court of Chile had to weigh in and declare a winner.
Allende was a civilian (medical doctor), who was democratically elected by the people of Chile.
Pinochet was a ruthless military dictator who was helped by the U.S. government to come to power. can't you see the diffrence?
Actually if you read some Chilean history you'd know that Castro's family made regular visits to Chile to oversee the Socialist Party's actions.
And that Allende was elected on his fourth try, not his second.
Why do you think the first thing Allende did once elected was in Feb 1970 sign a scientific and cultural agreement with the USSR? The Mitrokhin Archive is full of KGB information regarding the candidacy of Allende and he had already had contact with Russian intelligence throughout his previous campaigns.
I'm not trying to say that Pinochet wasn't a monster, he was. But I am saying that done condemn the US for getting involved with "Democratic elections" when Cuba and Russia did the same thing.

Because the people who abuse it will turn public favor away from wanting to give more to the program so the people who legitimately need it will end up losing out.
Anybody who actually really needs EBT should be furious with the people who are abusing it and using it for things like porn, booze, drugs, and hookers.
On top of all that, you should be able to see that using public money, other people's money, for those purposes is wrong. If you can't see that, then I don't know what to tell you.

This is absolutely and utter non-sense. Cuba is a tiny country compared to Chile, to think or suggest that Castro had anything to do with Allende's election is ludicrous.

I think it is a major issue because that's what people are going to be bringing up when/if this debate is ever actually held in New York and the amount of abuse of the system will be a major talking point against the furtherance of welfare programs for people who really do need it.
It needs to stop if those programs are going to have a future going forward, because if it isn't checked, it will become so widespread that nobody will be able to support it with a straight face.
