Williamsburg is a haven of bars and restaurants. There are several all over Bedford and Metropolitan.

Where I've been is quiet, but I'm new to that area too:-) But Duffs Brooklyn is good if you like metal. No other bars on that street that way. There is some on Flushing ave. but havent been to them.

Grand Street has a lot of bars now. Last time I was there it felt very much like the LES years ago, in ways both good and bad.

There are a number on Union near Metropolitan ave. (Lorimer stop). I'll also second Grand St. I feel like Bedford itself is mostly restaurants these days except for certain blocks (eg, between N7th and N8th)

Anywhere within 5 minutes' walk (in most directions) of the L train stops in Williamsburg has a wide range of bars. The main strip is still Bedford Ave between McCarren Park and Metropolotian. Also check out Grand between Union and Bushwick Aves. Greenpoint is also getting more like Wburg, especially on Manhattan and Franklin Aves, up to Greenpoint Ave.

If you want a place that is less pretentious out there, I might recommend the Trash bar on Grand and Roebeling for those who like punk/metal or hardcore. very gritty, old school dive.
