Atomic Wings. They have every level of heat you could ask for. I remember going to one quite a few years back. It was a tiny whole in the wall. I think now they have joined forces with restaurants and bar/grills and they have locations in the city as well as the boroughs.
Since you said NY, instead of NYC. I'm going to suggest Duff's in Buffalo, NY and Anchor Bar, Buffalo, NY. Anchor bar created buffalo wings so it's one of those things you gotta try as tourist. But Duff's has better wings.
Ever been to RUB Righteous Urban Barbecue, I believe Guy Fieri or Bobby Flay or one of those celebrity chefs went their for one of their shows. It is on 23rd St and 7th Ave.
I always like the fried chicken wings from you hole in the wall Chinese takeout/delivery joint. They are all the same basically, but I love it.
As a non-US resident but frequent visitor to NYC over the past 16 years since I first went there aged 21, I've always told people the 'Down the Hatch' wings are the best (not that I have anything really to compare them to! LOL). Are these wings actually any good or a bad example of what I think are 'good wings'?

Maybe I'm wrong but I stay away from Down the Hatch because I consider it an "underage" type of bar... No clue about their wings! haha.

Oh yeah it's a total college-age dive bar/dump. I went there first when I was 21 and thought it was a cool, albeit really basic little NYC place (but I love dive bars so it was all good). I went there again when I was in my late 20's and felt totally out of place and even moreso when I was in my early 30's but in saying that I'd still go in now, that sort of thing doesn't phase me, I'm 37 but really still 22 years old jumping around to Pearl Jam and RATM in my head... (Note: actually I still do that in the privacy of my own home, not in a bar surrounded by 18 year olds LOL)
I've always gone there for the wings, I think they are amazing, people in NY used to always tell me they were considered the best in the city...
