Carvel didn't keep up with the times and switched to incorporate frozen yogurt well. Now, most of time you'll find Carvel in one of those combo stores like with Dunkin Donuts selling some Ice cream cake or at places like supermarket selling their cakes.

It's not easy to find Carvel the brick and mortar stores by themselves alone.

It's the same thing with Blimpe, you can find Subways every 5 or 6 blocks in the city, but Blimpes is almost extinct. Times change, the 80's was Woolworth, now it's Duane Reade..

There's some Carvels left in Long Island. There's a lot more Blimpie's in NYC than other areas. Hard to find them on Long Island. None in Massachusetts.

Just saw a Blimpie TV commercial today. So perhaps they are planning a comeback although I can't say the same thing about Carvel.

There are still quite a few Carvels (old style stands with a big ice cream cone outside) and Baskin & Robbins (usually part of a DD) on Long Island.

Apparently, Carvels ice cream and storefronts are outdated ---without the benefit of also being classical. I also heard through the grapevine that their franchise agreements have no geographic "no compete" clauses --they allow Carvels close to each other....
