Any place decent to dine cheaply near the Apollo THeater (125th near Eighth?)
Ethnic a plus, being able to sit down a BIG plus.

Maison Harlem - it's casual but popular, perhaps try to get a reservation. St. N. and 127th. Right upstairs from the 125th subway exit.
Cafe Ambassades ... interesting but can be mixed experience-wise. FDB and 119th ...? right there somewhere.
Lido - good. Just below Ambassades on FDB.
I liked the Corner Social on Lenox just above 125th but it is a very young crowd usually, really noisy and hectic energy.
Chez Lucienne across the street is "eh." It can be awful, unfortunately.
Sylvia's is awful.
Others are a mixed bag and too often service or other problems.

Thanks guys,
I think we'll try:
It's almost around the corner from the Apollo.
Quote:
Veteran dancer-choreographer Maurice Hines brings back the heyday of Harlem nightlife at the Apollo Theater, which is transformed into a nightclub venue as part of Apollo Club Harlem, a new revue debuting Feb. 18 at the Harlem venue.

mathjak, my hot date has been the same one for 3 decades.
This will be the first time ever in the APOLLO.

It's not that close to the Apollo, but Amy Ruth's on 116th has some of the best Southern-American-style food north of the Mason-Dixon. The chicken and waffles and fried catfish are my personal favourite dishes. Making me hungry just thinking about it.

I just recently had a very good Senegalese meal at Africa Kine. It's on 116th between 7th & 8th Ave.

It was so friggen cold, too cold for exploration, so we jumped back on the M101 across the street from the Apollo and rode the warm bus back home and ate in.
Show was good, especially Hines and a pair of teenage tap dancers, the Manzari Brothers. Good Big Band sound.
