We are a family of 4 living in a tiny, roachy apt in Yorkville (I think it's a 1 bedroom flex 3 in NY terms meaning no doors and 2 weird rooms that you could put a bed in). We have 2 kids in public schools, 1 in elementary and 1 in jr high.

We are considering moving to Brooklyn, Queens, anywhere with doors would be an improvement. If we move out of district for my elementary school child can we still send her to the same school or do you have to keep them going to local schools? We have her in a nice school right now that she likes and once you add good public schools to the mix we will just end up in another shoebox. We would move to the suburbs in a heartbeat if we could figure out afterschool care for 2 kids. This city isnt all that easy for commuting, everything seems to be 45 minutes by train not counting the other train you take to your office.

I think we are ok for Jr. High since those are open to kids from all bouroughs anyway.

Any advice would be appreciated
