The BX4 is slow. Lot's of lights, traffic, pedestrians and narrow lanes due to the el. So much faster to take the 6 train.
Getting off at W 72nd St/Broadway is actually closer to W 76th St/Amsterdam Ave then W 79th St/Broadway. Broadway curves into Amsterdam Ave at W 71st Street.
The 2 is a lot quicker then the 1 anyway.
