Next month i am thinking of going to 76th and Amsterdam after my appointment at Montefiore Medical Park at Eastchester Rd and Blondell Avenue.

I know the #6 train is somewhere south of there. is it within walking distance? Would I walk down Eastchester Rd into Williamsbridge Rd, go south on Williamsbridge Rd which takes me into the 6 train? is it a long walk? is it a steep staircase high above the ground? Ive had difficulties with vertigo lately

i know the 6 will drop me at 77th and lex. is there a crosstown bus that will take me to the other side of the park? any xpress buses from this area to the W side?

or...should I just take the day off and take the #1 from my apartment to 79th and Broadway???!!!

I believe there is a bus at 72nd Street, as well as 79th Street, which are the street which traverse the park in that area.

If it is nice day, and time isn't an issue, you could walk. Quite pleasant.

From Google Maps it doesn't look like a far walk to the 6 train. 7-8 blocks. You can take the M79 crosstown to the West Side.

It's a fast walk to the Square train station. You walk up Eastchester and make a left onto Williamsbridge Road. Walk straight down to the train station. There's 2 sets of stairs leading into the turnstiles and then another to get to the platform. imo, none are steep.

Take the downtown 6 from Westchester Sq to Hunts Point Ave, then walk to the 2 train at Simpson St. It's literally like a block away. If you don't want to exit the system you can get off the 6 at E 125, travel uptown on the 4 or 5 to the E 149th/Grand Concourse Station and jump on the downtown 2.

You avoid the slow buses this way. Since your only doing this once I suggest exiting the system at Hunts Point Ave and walking a block up Southern Blvd to the 2 at Simpson St. (Why isn't this a free transfer again?)

E 138 and Third Ave is the last 6 train stop in the Bronx. E 149th and Grand Concourse is the last 2 train stop.

It's also a boring walk compared to Southern Blvd (A commercial corridor versus an industrial area) and farther (The stations are about twice as far apart).

I highly recommend getting off Hunts Point Ave, and walking one block north to the elevated 2/5 train station at Simpson Street.

Simpson Street Station comes equipped with an elevator.

FWIW, if the OP takes the Bx4 or Bx4A bus to Simpson Street, they don't have to pay a second fare. (Then again, I'm not sure if it's really much faster than the 6 to the M79).

And just to be clear, the 2 would let you off by 72nd Street, rather than 79th, so it would be a couple more blocks of walking (since Broadway starts to curve away as you go further south).
