Mta raises fairs however subwaysl tracks are still dirty, with human waste of all sorts, cat sized rats, delays, delays, delays, 2nd avenue subway line is taking forever, and more and more riders are getting hit or colliding with trains more often. Don't tell me mta workers hmo has gone up.

To be fair there was a long time when fares were held artificially low...because of all those "town halls and complaints about raising the fare"....investment and spending continued, bills piled up, and now they are playing catch up trying to get the fiscal house in order, which is why 3 fare increases in 3 years. That's what happens when you "buy now, pay later."

The fare will no doubt increase again, probably in 2015...get used to it.

I do sympathize with you all, but the fare hike doesn't affect me. Damn, I love working for the city!

Yeah seriously. On the surface, $2.75 doesn't seem that outrageous considering how far it can take you except that millions of people ride the trains every day...very overcrowded trains. It's not like no one uses the subway, so they have to raise prices to compensate for that. They keep raising the prices, but there are no improvements. It's dirty, crowded and unpredictable.

Also, the $1 thing for the card is REALLY pissing me off. If I have to pay for the metrocard itself, give me something I can keep reusing like a normal plastic card I can put in my wallet, and not the flimsy piece of paper that has a weak strip that machines don't read and useless expiration dates. I don't want to pay for that...that's just ridiculous.

I can guarantee they are going to have a lot of issues with cards and people sending them in because the stripe stopped working. Since people won't want to spend another $1 for a new card they will use the old card until that thing stops working. And with them being cheap cards it wont take long

Yeah that's exactly my gripe. If you are going to charge for the cards, then give us something that will work for more than 2 weeks. Those cheapo paper cards suck, and now I have to keep paying them precisely because they suck?

How many do you have?
