Even CUNY remidial exams are a joke, thats why in CUNY students have to take a comprehension exam called the CPE before they graduate, which will be graded by some person who speaks Standard American English in Ohio.
Nothing, which damages the value of a CUNY diploma. Students Breathe Easier as CUNY's Proficiency Exam Bites the Dust - Page 1 - News - New York - Village Voice
When first imposed, "“The faculty protested vigorously,” recalls College of Staten Island faculty member and University Faculty Senate chair Sandi Cooper, who says she and her colleagues viewed the test as a check on the quality of their teaching.”
My emphasis. How dare anyone check quality?
"CUNY’s decision to rescind the CPE—popular as it may be with faculty and students—carries some risk. “The price that is paid for not having something like this is that you don’t have as much public credibility that the guaranteed amount of learning is taking place”."
I won't call anyone out, for the lack of commas.
George Bush and Ed Koch have never been accused of being the most articulate people, yet they are fairly successful people.
So who decides on what is "butchering" a language?
This is really nothing more than pretension.
This is really nothing more than delusion.
Are you seriously trying to equate that the way these two people spoke is equivalent to the slurpy ramblings of some of those kids who are going to NYC high schools? Some are so articulate that it's difficult to know what they are trying to say.
But that's just it, relative to any environment, there is still no one way to speak.
Bush spoke very differently from Obama, yet both were still President of the United States. **** spoke very differently from Bloomberg, but both were still mayor of NYC.
You're mistaking accepted variations (dialect/accent variation) in speech from non accepted variations.
Ebonics, Spanglish, or any other number of forms of "broken" English aren't accepted.

I sure am. What you're saying is nothing more than delusion. Speak to a linguist.
Some NYC kids come from racial/ethnic backgrounds that are despised. So everything that they do is "bad" including the way that they speak, even though there is no naturally good or bad way or speaking per se.
And yes, Koch sounds absolutely awful when he speaks, I'd rather here the lowest class NYC kid speak. Ditto for Bush. I don't have a broken down old white man fetish. I really don't.

But by who?
Again, this is nothing but racial hate on your part? White people, no matter how hideous or buffoonish (**** has a face like an inflamed Baboon's vagina), speak "well" but somehow blacks and hispanics don't, because you don't like them. But that has nothing to do with acceptance. Its your own personal issues.
