Hi all,
New to forum and not a techy so forgive me if asked before.
Looking to move outside NYC no more than 45 mins from city. Work in Washington Hts-ideally would be west side-however, partner prefers east-HELP!!
We are looking for a small affordable house or townhouse.

What do you mean by affordable? Precious little 45 minutes from the city is affordable, and that which is usually has other problems.

To the west, you could ask in the NJ forum, you're looking for a town with bus service to the GWB bus station. Hackensack, maybe; I know the snob types look down on it so maybe it's more affordable than a typical Bergen County town. To the east there's just the Bronx, which isn't outside NYC. To the north there's Westchester which I wouldn't call affordable, although as I recall Buchanan (way north, near the nuclear plant) isn't too expensive.

Post in the Westchester, NJ, and Long Island forums to get better information. "Affordable" is a very relative term, however.

Nowhere on Long Island (even in Queens/Brooklyn) is within 45 minutes of Washington Heights. Maybe driving, but commuting on the Cross Bronx Expressway sounds like the worst idea imaginable.

In NJ, try Hackensack and Englewood. In Westchester, parts of Yonkers are relatively inexpensive. Those are the cheapest places within 45 minutes (by public transit) of Washington Heights. But I don't really know what you mean by "affordable". What are you looking to pay?
