Hey, I'm a 23 year old black female from Mississippi looking to move to the big apple. I'm just starting out. I've never been to new York but I've been in love with the place since forever. And I wanted to know the safest place to move as well as the best and most affordable places to stay. Thanks!
I think you're not getting any answers because your question is so generic, and it sounds as if you haven't bothered to do any research at all. I suggest that you start by doing a search of this forum, and maybe digging up some articles and books. Then, after you have a job and know your salary, or at least after you arrive and have looked around at different neighborhoods, then at that point come back and ask specific questions.

Well do you want to know the "best" and safest neighborhoods, or the most affordable? They're going to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. At the very least we'll need to know what sort of budget you're looking at to even begin to offer any halfway helpful advice.
NYC is considered one of the safest big cities in the USA. So as already mentioned you need to tell us what your budget for housing is before anyone will give you a real answer.

Affordable and safe dont go together in much of NYC unless if you are planning to live on the outskrits of the city like Coop City in the Bronx or Bay Ridge in Brooklyn which have an hour commute into Manhattan. Generally your kind the out of towners move to hip and trendy areas which cost more than an arm and a leg.
Start looking in Queens. Maybe neighborhoods like Flushing or Richmond Hill. These Neighborhoods are less expensive and reasonably safe. Make sure to look for places near a subway line so you can take the train into Manhattan. A lot of times you get an even better deal if you rent a basement apartment. Stay safe, and if your gut feeling tells you it is not the right kind of place for you, look elsewhere.
The reality you find in New York might be very different from how you imagine it from movies, etc..
