160's and Boston Road. Bronx East Flatbush Brooklyn , Brownsville and East New York are they really bad like as bad as parts of North Philadelphia and Camden New Jersey. I thought New York was safe and the bronx and brooklyn have been revitalized with yuppies and what not . Is there still nightly shootings and death in New York because if its not it aint that bad. People who say it is need to look up North Philadelphia, Kensington, parts of West Philly, and Southwest Philly. Philly is like a complete jungle of violence mayhem death and destruction, no parental guidance, no job opportunities, too much drugs, prostitutes gangs and what not. Do people exagerrate when they say parts of Boston Road Bronx and other sections like soundview mott haven university heights and parts of East Flatbush, East New York, Brownsville, Bedford Stuyvesant, Buschwick , Crown Heights and Canarsie are bad. Are there nightly shootings everynight in these neighborhoods. I was thinking on doing a paper entitled NYC s hoods meant not to glamorize the hood life but meant to explain what specific neighborhoods and sections of New York continue to experience gun violence, drug trafficking, gang violence, homicide, etc and what society in general needs to do to improve them. I also would like to know if I could compare parts of North Philadelphia with violent parts of New York. Is New Yorks violent neighborhoods like walking to disneyland compared to the Kensington , Allegheny West, Fairhill, Hartranft, Strawberry Mansion Nicetown/tioga neighborhoods of Philly . Do New York s hoods compare at all to North Philadelphias Badlands? could somebody who lives or knows a great deal about these areas of NYC give some information about the way life is in these parts of nyc . Contact me at Sandsharkboy@comcast.net thanks any information would greatly be appreciated. My information will go towards putting together a presentation on how although New York is a great big beautiful city made up of five huge boroughs. And statistics say its the most safest big city in the nation. These statistics can be quite misleading if one looks a these several neighborhoods I asked about in Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens and how many people in these neighborhoods still suffer from homicide gun violence drugs and gangs on an everyday basis and how we need to improve these communities thank you any info would be greatly appreciated. Also ive been hearing people mention the acronym the rocks in queens is this a bad neighborhood and I also am hearing from people that parts of queens are bad if so could somebody tell me where the high crime sections of queens are.

is ny even still bad at all wshy do they call it the safest big city phillys way worse than nyc in terms of crime . The same can be said with alot of places in New Jersey. Are any of these sections as bad as new yorkers really claim
Even the other bad sections of The Bronx [like Castle Hill]Manhatten: Parts of Harlem
Staten Island: West Brighton
Queens: Queensbridge, Jamica
Bronx: Mott Haven, Soundview, South Bronx
Brooklyn: East New York, Brownsville, Bushwick
Also in Brooklyn: BedStuy, Parts in Flatbush, Crown Heights, Canarsie.
Bronx: Parts in Kingsbridge, parts in Fordham (like Decatur) parts Fordham RD.
Wakefield-241st street. Botherline to Mt. Vernon.

Manhattan: Lower Eastside, Delancey st./Essex st.
Manhattan: East Harlem, Central Harlem, West Harlem, Inwood, Washington Heights, LES projects
Basically the whole Uptown area of Manhattan is the ghetto. The projects in the LES aswell.
Brooklyn: Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownsville, East NY, Flastbush, East Flatbush, Bushwick, Crown Heights
Brooklyn north is mostly slums.
Queens: Far Rockaway, Southside Jamaica, Queensbridge projects
Most of Queens is nice. The above two neighborhoods along with the Queensbridge projects stick out like sore thumbs.
Bronx: Mott Haven, Melrose, Morrisania, Hunts Point, Soundview, Highbridge, Tremont, East Tremont, Morris Heights, University Heights, Fordham, Fordham-Bedford, Wakefield, North Bronx projects, Castle Hill Projects
Go anywhere south of Bedford Park and west of the Bronx River. If you want to see decay go south of Fordham. Walk around those hoods.
Go to northeast Brookyn.
Far Rock and South Jamaica in Queens.
Harlem and Wash Heights Uptown have plenty of Decay.
Even the other bad sections of The Bronx [like Castle Hill]

To the OP: every place is dangerous if you're uncomfortable there. You shouldn't let anyone else tell you what a particular neighborhood is like. Go there yourself and see how you feel.

Bronx River Pkwy overpass East Tremont Avenue it's also the dividing line between West Farms and Van Nest.

No. The area considered Fort Apache was in East Morrisania, Hunts Point and Longwood. 41st pct was at Simpson St. By the early 80's the pct building was called "little house on the prairie". In the early 90's the pct moved to Longwood Ave. don't know why...and 42pct at Washington Ave. took over the East Morrisania Ft. Apache part.

It was probably moved so it would be in a more densely populated part of the neighborhood. If a crime happens, they'll be more likely to be right there and able to respond. Plus, it's easier for the people in the neighborhood to reach it if they want to report a crime or something.

I assume it was called the "little house on the prarie" because it was surrounded by vacant lots and abandoned buildings.

Yes, when the smoke finally cleared and the 80's dawned the magnitude of the destruction became evident. 41 pct was pretty much the only building still standing on the block. It was declared a landmark building in 1992.

Pulling Out of Fort Apache, the Bronx; New 41st Precinct Station House Leaves Behind Symbol of Community's Past Troubles - New York Times

As the article mentions one of the main reason to move the pct was to be closer to the center of the pct boundaries.

I disagree. I was just walking on E201st St from Webster to the GC and the area looks just like it did 30 years ago. The buildings are well-maintained and the area seemed safe to me. Just because there is not much new construction does not mean the area is neglected.

that is a nice street. the Perry Avenue Historic District between Bedford Pk and Mosholu Pkwy also helps that area

I think Bedford Park also has it's own Community organization which also helps

I usually walk around the Heights and I don't see that much decay. Audubon is a little gritty, but its really nice by Fort Tryon Park.
