Some folks deliberately don't get it! The equivalent of Central, as in, say, London or Hong Kong, would be midtown.
So if you work there, the big question is east or west, which means how many blocks which way from 5th Avenue? If you're a few blocks east, Westchester has woodsy areas within an hour's commute. A few blocks west, you maybe should be thinking Penn Station and Long Island or New Jersey. In any of these cases, you could live within a 20-minute drive of some form of hiking or lying on the beach, at least.
If you buck those rules, you can easily blow another 30 mins getting to and from the train and end up spending 3 hours a day commuting rather than 2! And driving or riding the bus is only for nuts or folks who work off-hours.
As for the money, think you've got to accept 3K a month, at the very least, to rent a decent house these days. To buy, well that would be insane right now! Pretty much 500-600K minimum, and that'll run you a lot more than 3K a month.

Are you able to obtain a visa through any route other than employment? Because if not then location may be to an extent decided for you depending on how you are able to go about securing an employment-based visa.
nope emplyment would most probably be the only way, what places would be easie to do this?
Manhattan is prob the most expensive boro to live in, so yeah def. be willing to expand your horizons. People overseas automatically assume that when I say I live in "New York" that I really mean the city. There are other parts to "New York" than Manhattan. New York as a state is HUGE.
Ahh yeah i know but manhatten sounds nice, where abouts in new york is decent?
Also what about LA places around there? whats that like ?
LA has a very high cost of living, thats what put me off!Im planning to go to nyc after school because new york is sooo better!!!lol. It has different boroughs so you have different choices aswell! best of luck!
