I recently posted a thread about finding a higher-paying wait-staff position in New York City. I'm hunting for a way to get by as I pay for training at (hopefully) one of the more respectable acting schools in town.
So now that I have a clearer understanding of my potential to land a decent serving job (thanks to those of you who helped with that), I'm curious what sort of earnings I could actually expect if/when I got hired.
On the high end, my estimation (I won't bore you with the math) of a budget that would pay for rent, living expenses and training would be roughly $3300 a month. That translates to a serving job that would earn me about $825 a week. That's a high average according to my experience as a waiter, but then I've never lived in NYC. Maybe it's more possible there?
On the low end, I'd need to be making about $2300 monthly ($575 weekly).
Obviously, I'll be saving up as much as I can before even making the leap to NYC, but these are the base numbers I seem to be working with once I'm there.
Can anyone out there give me a reality check insofar as how much money a waiter can expect to make per week/month in NYC?
I realize there's plenty of variation depending on location and clientele. I'm just trying to get a basic sense to work with so that I can plan accordingly.
