Go onto the Gowanus, go over the Verrazanno-Narrows Bridge, along the SIE, across the Goethals Bridge, and you're right there. The whole thing should be less than 10 miles, and should take you around 20 minutes without traffic. With traffic is a different story (generally, backups are eastbound, not westbound, though).

In other words, it's a straight shot on I-278.
