Looking to share a 2BR with a friend. We are both moving from out of state. He'll be working in W. Bronx (E180th & Webster Av) and I'll be in Brooklyn (Dekalb at Wyckoff Av) Looking for somewhere that is equidistant for both of us. We can spend $2700 to $3000 max on rent. We originally decided on the UES, but I've heard it may be a longer commute for me. Another friend of mine suggested Murray Hill, as my roommate can take an express train to the Bronx. Can anyone give me any better suggestions? Thanks!

72nd St and Columbus Ave on the Upper West Side gives you each a 38 minute commute. The problem is that 2 bedroom apartments cost more than $3000 around there. I think $3000 may be on the low end of a one bedroom price in that area.

edit: found some $3000 2 bedrooms in the Upper West Side listed on nybits but didn't take a close look at exact location.

You'll depend on the D (Him), and L or M (You) trains. You'll have to transfer once.

Somewhere on the West side is middle ground. Like Hell's Kitchen, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Sq, UWS.

W 72nd St as mentioned above is an excellent geographical recommendation.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into some of those locations. Also, is it accurate enough to use google maps from whatever rental I'm looking at to check train commute time. Or is there a more accurate app to use like hopstop?
