It's very unfortunate, but in some people's eyes, a neighborhood has not really arrived until you see some white people walking around. Of course white does not always translate into higher income (see: Williamsburg).

The opposite of gentrification is actually happening in the East and Brownsville now. People getting priced out of Crown Heights and Flatbush are moving into these areas. But its mostly lower-income people who are not bringing money into the area.

Exactly. That's why I don't see gentrification happening anytime soon in these neighborhoods.

Which is why I said whites moving into ENY or Brownsville currently is no big deal, as only LOW income whites would make that move in the present.

Which is why I pointed out Section 8 whites, drug addict whites, etc. The few whites moving into ENY or Brownsville are as low income as the rest of the neighborhood. Their presence is not indication of improvement, instead, its indication that the city is further concentrating poverty in these areas (basically dumping unwanted people there). It will take fantastic efforts to gentrify these areas (including dumping the poor there elsewhere).

A large influx in low income whites would make a bigger difference than you suggest.

Not when they are as low income as the current Brownsville residents. You are aware that destitute whites on government programs are not a real estate selling point. Besides, the city is going to soon have massive fiscal issues . The unions are demanding 8 billion dollars worth of retroactive pay, all while the government continues to cut welfare programs (nationally all food stamps got cut). You so don't want to be white in those ghetto neighborhoods while welfare programs are being cut. Things will get worse in the short term, and you'd be at risk for being robbed. If you know how to fight or good at weapons, fine, but who would really want a repeat of do or die Bedstuy (this isn't Bedstuy we're talking about, its Brownsville and ENY).

Oh, NYCHA has already laid off a lot of employees, and more are at risk due to the new budget Congress will pass early next year.

The potential in the short term is for Brownsville and ENY to get WORSE, not better. Anyone who moves there is either foolish or desperate or likes being mugged and shot.

As for low income whites, for the most part, they have FLED NYC for other places. You will not get a large influx of low income whites into any NYC poor neighborhood, though you do get a few stragglers here in there.

Poor hipsters who come to NYC to struggle for a few years leave. I wouldn't hold my breath for the city's worst neighborhoods to get a large white population any time soon, and DEFINITELY not a low income white population.

So from the bold, you kind of admit that if there were more low income whites in Brownsville then it would be a better place. Else you wouldn't of made that statement towards a specific race.

Are there any off beat cafes with free wi fi that serves decent espresso in East New York?
