I've had quite the opposite experience. Geico charges me less than $90/month to insure both of us. We have a 2007 and the price, with the exception of a fee that NY State added and Geico turned around and put on us ($5), has stayed the same since we first registered this car in 2009. This is not just for liability either. And yes, our car is registered in Brooklyn.
better question is what business do you have owning a car in bklyn? you don't need it. it's a big liability and headache to deal with, never even mind the inflated costs for insurance.

There are areas of Brooklyn that you need a car to easily access on a daily basis if you do not want to be stuck facing multiple bus transfers. I work in an area that has no subway access. My commute takes me 15-20 mins in the early AM. If I were to take the train/bus it would be around an hour and a half.
That just doesn't make sense. I have my car insured through Geico for about $120 a month in Manhattan, and while I've heard that Manhattan has cheaper insurance on the whole compared to Brooklyn, I don't think it would be 7 times more expensive...
Have you tried looking at other companies? Shop around and see if you can bring that (way) down.
I had an exorbitant rate with Allstate that my mother signed me up for without asking many years ago...I switched to Nationwide the next year at less than half the rate.
It pays to shop.

better off taking a cab every day if you had to pay 800 a month for insurance.
Well just like I said before, there is nothing bad at all about my driving record, high 700's credit score, live in a pretty good area, etc. I did get a quote with Progressive, and it was a little less at about $675 a month. Turns out that the Personal Injury Protection, which NYS requires and NJ does not, is what really drives the price up, being the most expensive thing on the policy. The car is long gone now, I'd rather eat the money than pay 700 a month for insurance. Someone mentioned what if I had an STI, it would easily be twice as much as the TSX. It's funny because back when I lived in Jersey I quoted a C63 AMG, which is one of the most expensive to insure, and it was still less than what it costs to insure the TSX in the city.
