Most cities in the Northeast, South and West are growing if you want to be technical!
You hit the nose on the head. People have to live where they can afford, regardless of whether or not they find it "hip" or "cool" and this applies to everyone. You can love NYC all you want, but if you can't afford to live here, you have to move elsewhere.

Exactly the black migration or people migrating in general is for cost of living. Every successful black person I know living in NYC who works in medicine, finance and technology are living pretty easily.
Blacks don’t make up the majority of Philadelphia, DC or Houston either meaning they are over 50% of The population. Atlanta the city percentage wise has lost many black folks from before with the black growth taking place in the suburbs because of gentrification. You might want to check your facts again.
Also I disagree that the south is a better environment for “blacks”. Blacks aren’t animals and just like white people we have our personal preferences.
The reality is, cost of living is the main factor for why Blacks are leaving the city. It’s not exclusevily based on the amenities you looked at that seem to only apply to black people who want to live in isolation.
For me personally I find the south to be boring, slow in pace, weak job market, still filled with racism, and I find the black network in NYC pretty good as far as professionalism, entertainment and events go!
But then again my family is from the Caribbean and the Caribbean immigrants have settled in NYC pretty greatly by owning businesses, getting involved in politics and creating a number of middle class areas!
Some people on here think that Black people are the born. Caribbean immigrants have no historical ties to the South, there's much less of a reason for them to want to go.
But the differences aren't just ethnic, they are personal.
I don't find the South boring. I find it lacking. I don't have any problem visiting.
But where my family is from, it's a rural area two hours away from the airport, two hours away from medical specialists (people have died en route to hospitals), and far from other things that one needs to go to. And there is no public transportation.
The South is cheaper alright, but you get what you pay for. It's cheaper than NYC because there's considerably less demand.
I love NYC. I got tired of it, and I now live in Barcelona, Spain. Not every Black person who leaves NYC goes to the South. As you said, Black people aren't heard animals.

Or you can get a better job. Or you can go to school so you can get a better job. If you really want to live in NYC, you can find ways to make it happen.

Agreed and the main southern place that Caribbean folks have a relationship with is Florida but Bronxguyanese is fooling himself if he thinks Florida is more of a better environment for blacks than NYC lol.

Yup money is never short in NYC and I love to hustle so my type of lifestyle can’t accommodate the south style of living but I do love Georgia and visit ATL all the time and south Florida.
My actually favorite southern city is actually Charleston, SC.

The Black people I know with jobs in education (actual, licensed teachers and above) or with union jobs are living pretty easily too.
I never trust the census, from 1978-1983 lived in a charming walk up on the corner of Intervale and Beck street in the Bronx. I heard they called the local precinct “fort apache “ but I don’t recall seeing one Native American during my evening strolls !
