I would like to spend a relaxing day in Long Island in a nice quant town near a nice beach .

What I seek is peace , quiet and just a nice relaxing time with good food , not the hoards of people making noise. . I dont have a vehicle but can take transport and even a Zipcar if its neeeded.

Does anyone have any suggetions for a nice daycation or tips ???

Thanks for any and alll tips

When I want a quiet time at the beach, I usually go to Robert Moses state park. There is a snack stand only but the beach is usually not terribly crowded. If you want more of a small town setting, I'd recommend some of the more family oriented towns on Fire Island. Both of my recommendations are easily accessible through special trip packages on the LIRR (which include any needed transport from the LIRR station to the beach). Good luck!

Have you asked in the LI forum?

I've been to Robert Moses when it's been very crowded. (Not a holiday either.) But I enjoy that beach.

Robert Moses is only crowded on the beach near the parking lots. If you walk away from the parking lots along the beach, you will get to more sparsely settled beach but there are no lifeguards so be careful.

But I also like the Ocean Beach beach on Fire Island. It has nice white sand. I used to go there as a child where my family had restaurant. I would go to the beach, go back and eat lobster, and go back to the beach.

I've heard that some of Fire Island beaches are closed now. They were devastated by Sandy.
