I am pretty sure I am on the brink of being fired, and I want to find ways to get another job quickly. I know it is very hard to get a job these days, but I need to do what I can.

I've been working at a law firm for a year, and since January, my immediate boss and I had been working on the monthly bills after the other office manager was fired. Doing the bills made me anxious because there's tons of money involved and everything has to be perfect when submitting bills. I also felt overwhelmed at times because there were so many bills, and literally so little time. So, I made a lot of mistakes and I think my boss has had it with me. She gave me so many chances to improve and I just couldn't go the bills right. I think this had a lot to do with my fear of screwing up, which only led me to screw up anyway.

Tomorrow she'll sit and talk with me again, and I'm pretty sure this will be the end. I'll be very surprised if it isn't. I know once I am let go, I am going to hit the ground running for a new job. I'm already in touch with an employment agency because last month I was certain I would be fired. I have been contacting the agency twice or even three times a month, but nothing that isn't better than what I have. A few days ago, I told the guy who's helping me (he's got great reviews on Yelp.com) that I will take anything now, even a job not much different from mine in work and pay. I haven't heard from him yet, so I will try again.

One thing that is making me very nervous about being fired is not just because I'll be unemployed, but because last month I moved into a roommate arrangement and I don't want to be asked to leave. This is mainly because I was living as my parents' tenant for a few years on Staten Island and I moved out because we were fighting and arguing so much about my future and every aspect of my life (my parents are the definition of helicopter parenting). Even though my sister has said I could move in with her after I'm asked to leave, I am worried that may not work out and I'll be forced to live with my parents again, and endure the same stress and mental torture.

So, any advice on getting a full time administrative job will be most helpful. I'm just trying to look at every avenue possible so I don't leave a stone unturned in getting back to work. I know networking is key, but apparently, no one knows anyone who's hiring - or so they say.

Thanks!

Try contacting some law firms directly.

I've thought about that but if I get fired, then how will I explain my job loss? Wouldn't they want to contact the place where I was fired?

Most employers will want to know why you left your priot job. I suggest you work on being able to answer that question....whether to a law firm or any other potential employer

If you can't handle bills then you can't handle an administrative job especially in a big city. The admin assistants in our office are expected to juggle so many different things at the same time from travel itineraries to reimbursements to truncating client calls to managing everyone's calendars etc etc, all this while knowing everything at the top of their minds. You might want to consider switching fields to something that requires less multitasking and less time pressure.

The admins at this law office mostly type all day. The lawyers just give them recordings of correspondences, depositions, etc. and they type them up. They also put together legal papers and court documents. As far as I know, there is very little billing for them to do.

As for switching fields, that's a little hard to do when you need a job right away.
