Called them today to get our electricity turned on in our name. It seems I need to choose a "supply" from which the energy actually is purchased and Con ed only gets it to me? There is a long list of these "supply" choices. Reports? How do I choose? Thanks.

Choose Con Ed.
If you find a way to get the gajillion other suppliers to stop phoning you, let me in on the secret.

Con-Ed is a thief...but so are all of the others.

In reality, this "deregulation" means nothing Prices are much the same, i.e. cartel fixed, and the electricity works the same way.

Agreed. I chose another supplier once because they guaranteed a lower rate for a minimum of 3 months. Well, the 4th month came and it was significantly higher - enough to negate any previous savings. That was the end of that. Never again.

Yes, choose Con Ed. There have been other threads on here. Most of what I read when doing research is that it would be "cheaper" for a couple months with the other provider (still serviced by Con Ed) and then the rates would sky rocket. However they do offer you the choice of provider when you start new service.
