It would be easier to have the Tri-Boro RX in Regional Rail format then Subway format due to the Hell Gate line and some parts of the ROW which are too narrow for Freight and Subway to Co-Exist... I would tunnel under NY Harbor and continue to St. George , Bayonne , Elizabeth and out to Raritan,NJ which fills in multiple neglected transit networks. I would also connect the Tri-Boro RX to the Long Island Railroad allowing for Eastern Queens / Long Island Access to the Bronx , Westchester and Connecticut and those areas access to Job Markets in Queens and Long Island. You could also run seasonal one seat trains to Montuak and Long Beach from White Plains via I-287 Railway and Stamford. With Modern Signaling you can run trains every 2-5 mins , I would keep the City Fare = MTA or NJT depending on which side you're on. Out of City fares would be based on mileage... Aside the Tunnels needed under the Harbor and the I-287 Corridor this version is ready to be built and cheaper.

I would like to see path train extension from 33rd sf to grand central terminal. It would be great connecting path to metro north and lirr, and east side subway lines which givd access to bronx, and Queens.

Whenever the LIRR runs directly into Penn Station, the MTA has said it will send Metro North into Penn station via the tracks on the West Side of Manhattan and through Queens, via the Hells Gates bridge. So the MTA does have pending plans on using the Hell Gates bridge for regional rail.

If a buildup in requests for this does happen, then the Triboro RX could actually happen--it'd just take quite a while. Part of what makes the Triboro RX even tractable though is the fairly low cost of it given that its route already has most of its right-of-way secured and that the route goes into several dense areas where no rapid transit currently exist. The Second Avenue Subway does have much higher demand, but building it is incredibly costly since it involves a lot of tunnel boring and construction in some of the most expensive and crowded areas of the city.

Another, fantasy though possibly useful in the future addition that would not cost absurd amounts of money would be to have a station for the J/M built directly above the Broadway G stop--including possibly closing one or both of the adjacent J/M stops which are currently already close together. Both of these lines are underutilized, but making a connection between the two could reinforce ridership for the both of them since it gives people living on the G train an alternative to getting to downtown Manhattan, the Lower East Side, and growing south Williamsburg and Bushwick while offering J/M riders a good alternative to getting to LIC, North Brooklyn, and downtown Brooklyn.

I don't think any of these three will happen soon, but they do represent relatively inexpensive ways to improve and better utilize the current transit system. There's always the argument that having these connections could actually spur development patterns to make use of these new possible commute patterns. In a city that is once again witnessing steady population growth, these could be pretty valuable.
In Manhattan, at Broadway-Lafayette, the MTA finally connected both sides of the 6 to the B, D, F, and M trains. At MetroTech, they finally connected the R to the A, C, and F trains. In LIC, Citibank paid for the MTA to connect the 7 to the E, M, and G at Court Square. So its certainly feasible for the MTA to connect the G at Broadway to the J and M at Lorimer. The MTA does stuff when they are convinced the numbers warrant it. The Christie Street cut (the M connection to the F local tracks) lay unused except for work trains for decades, until they finally decided a lot of people from Williamsburg had to transfer from other trains to go to Midtown. So then decided to cancel the V and extend the M up 6th Avenue, back to Forest Hills.

Thats impossible due to the IND Line which is right in front of the PATH.

Amtrak uses the Hell Gate 45 times a day , CSX uses it 6 times a day....Regional Rail will operate 3 times per hour..

Before the V came into existence, the G used 6 75 foot long car trains. The R46 cars taken from the G were used to create the trains from the V. Longer cars are a no no. They are already using long (R68 and R68A) cars, 75 feet length, to be exact and those cars are too big for the system. This system is built for cars of the 60 foot length (Lettered lines excluding the Grand Central Shuttle), and 51 feet (Numbered lines).
