I currently live in Georgia.I would like to move to New York but I am unemployed.I have a back injury and can't do much lifting, but I can do manual labor jobs jobs such as working a cash register,or washing dishes.I would love to move to New York because of the transportation.I have no drivers license, and I would love to live in an area where I can get wherever I need to get through the train system.I was actually thinking about taking a plane to New York and being homeless for a while, while I work odd jobs and do different types of work around the city,or perhaps work at Walgreen's or something of the sort. That is,until I save up enough money to get an apartment.Would this be a good idea?
no no no, If you have no $ NYC is the last place to start over. upstate new york or down south, and you should still try to get some money together before making the trip.
Even those jobs are hard to come by. You can make it work, but you better have tons of money saved up. Doing it the way you describe is not a good idea at all.
Work, save money ,then move. Research, moving anywhere homeless is not a good idea unless you have a plan or the ambition to pull yourself together .some people don't have the means to find a place to live and find work for whatever reason, in such case you have to reevaluate yourself and if you want to move in this way then you'll have a tough time . Call homeless shelers, talk to someone in the unemployment office in new york city ,call and research programs in new york city that could help people in your position. You should move out with enough money to cover several months in case you're unable to find work and always have a plan A, B and C in case either plan doesn't work .Hope for the best and prepare for the worst .Good luck.

For some reason I'm picturing the opening moments of "Midnight Cowboy" (1969), give or take a couple of details.
