overcrowding and therefore the body heat from tourists especially during the summer when they pour into nyc.

This summer is brutal, it seems worse here than the south.

So you think the summers in NY are more brutal than something like Florida?

I ride my bicycle to work year-round and I've been doing it in these temperatures too.
I get more sweaty than than usual but I find that as long as I keep myself hydrated I feel perfectly fine afterwards.

If these temps continue through the weekend I'm escaping upstate to the Catskills region.

Concrete, asphalt, vehicles, tall buildings all absorb the heat from the day. They absorb so much heat that they radiate that heat after the sun goes down. They never really get a chance to cool off unless a cool front or hard rain passes. If your AC can't keep up, try filling an ice chest with ice and rock salt then set a fan to blow across the top of the open ice chest.

I always wondered how guys in uniforms (especially police officers) kept so crisp and fresh looking during humid weather. I visited Manhattan years ago on a hot, humid day - and this handsome cop looked like he stepped out of a fashion mag for cop wear. Maybe he perspired later, but I stared at him long enough to see that he looked cool as a breeze then.

Miami's been averaging about the same as NYC so far this month. 1°F hotter, though somewhat more humid.

I don't think the summers here could possibly be more brutal than in Florida, however, the way most of us have to travel and shop in NYC means we are outside a lot more, carrying packages, standing on the brutally hot subway platform, jostling for space in crowds, etc.

It's been a long time since I visited Florida, but I have a feeling they have a more air conditioned lifestyle. I still would not want to live there, though, or anywhere in the south for that matter. I really hate hot humid weather.
