Heck most of Europe has a lot of mixture. The Europeans have been mixing with just about everybody over the years, so none of this is shocking. That's why the Germans and English have been said to be "brothers". Spain, Italy and Portugal were all heavily mixed to begin with, with various Europeans, but some parts are even more more mixed. Plenty of swarthy Spanish, Italian and Portuguese around though I must say the mixture looks great. With that said you have plenty of fair skinned Spanish, Italian and Portuguese too from the areas you mentioned so it's really a mixed bag. Very much like the Hispanics you see here. They come in all shades and colors.

That's why it's comical when Hispanics cling to their "Spanish" roots as if the Spanish were so pure. Even the Northern Spanish have a great deal of mixture. Maybe not Moorish influence like Southern Spain has, but still mixture nonetheless. Let us not forget the Jewish influence in Spain for starters.

FYI: You should of course know that white is short for White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP), which were, and still is, the British, Dutch, Germans, etc. It was never about simply having white appearing features or being European. Being European means you are caucasian, not white, and therein lies the difference....but they need the numbers..so come one, come all! Welcome to the party!

Yeah well previously you didn't have Hispanics here in large numbers and the US likes to put everyone into categories so that's what they did. They clearly don't view Hispanics as truly White though, that's why the distinction is made between White-non Hispanic and White Hispanic. No other White group has this sort of distinction.

Pretty much, Spanairds are mixed with Germanic Goths, Celts, Italians, Greeks, North Africans from both Carthaginian conquest during antiquity and Arab/Moorish Conquest of the early middle ages. Even French are mixed, France used to be a Roman Provence this is why French is similar to Spanish and Italian and heavily Roman Catholic, also Greeks colonized Southern France introducing wine and olive oil which is the staple of the French diet to this day. French are also mixed with Celtic the people who Rome Conquered and also Germanic tribe called the French who conquered Roman Gaul. Italians are mixed too but I don't want to get into that.

I worked with a Jew for several years and she was as lily white as a white lily. I had a Jewish friend in DC and if he had stayed out of the sun he would have been, also. White skin is pretty obvious. WASP's aren't the only whites. I admit I have said that if I live long enough I'll be looked at as one of the old-time whites, so white you can see blue veins. And I have blue eyes and fine hair. Skin color matters to me only in that I wouldn't want to live in a neighborhood where people looked at me like 'what are you doing here,' and I like diversity, but it has never occurred to me to break race down to the point that I consider a person's culture to group them into any race other than white if their skin is white. Personally I think it's too bad the census considers race. When we stop considering race, a lot of problems will go away.

There's nothing "critical thinking" about categorizing people according to the appearance of their skin or their religion, that certain of these are "taking over" and referring to groups as "breeds" and alluding to some "sorry status for whites".

I suggest you re-evaluate your thinking which might actually be what is astounding, and what you consider to be "important fact"s

It's actually quite the opposite of what you are saying...In other countries anyone with any sign of caucasian features will label them self white, here it is the complete opposite.
