I'm writing a fiction book. In a few specific scenes I'm looking to describe the subway stations of New York; smell, sight, feel, taste, sounds. If anyone can give me some firsthand info, I'd appreciate it. Feel free to be as descriptive as possible.

In which season does your book take place? You'll get different answers if it's summer or winter.
ETA - you should also specify if it's an underground station vs an elevated station.
Don't act like the tunnels don't have a taste to them, lol. They do. It sneaks up on you sometimes and catches you and you dread that you allowed it to. LOL It's putrid at times and smells like death, lol. Smells like old, dirty, wet, like a bloody gym locker room with no doors.
At the end of the day though, I love it.
SouthernNative: the sound is of mass confusion of chatter, machinery and pa systems that you barely understand. it feels like huge concentrated gathering of intent, focused human energy. to continue on the smell and feel, it is thick air, something that someone with respiratory issues may feel will close in on them and kill them.

That's smell. Not taste. I'm happy to say that I haven't tasted the subway. Smelled. Yes. Absolutely. Tasted? Only the beverage I had with me at the time.
Most stations are old and in need of renovation. Sight and sound depends if it is underground or elevated station.
