People are getting soft these days. Instead of kicking ass like back in the day, people whine about it on the internet.
I would hide in shame if some uncoordinated drunk harassed me, instead of publicly announcing what a wimp I was.

Sounds like some drunk stumbled on you, and you make it out to be some vicious assault. I'm glad the cops did not waste any more time than they needed to.

Sobro is right on this one.
The police is not there to protect you. They are there to protect their own interests.

I agree with the popular consensus:

you should've kicked some a$$ that night.

Easier said than done when someone has you in a choke hold. We also have no idea how their sizes compared.

From your original post, you sounded female and this is what I assumed.

At 2:30am, there is a certain risk, and Broadway/Canal at that hour isn't the most heavily traficked area.

You told the police you were "fine". Had you claimed injury (even bruising) it would have been different.

Always be aware of your surroundings.

Also, your post title.... "Violently attacked" implies injury....

You're right about that. We dont know sizes or ages.
Maybe the OP can give us details.

The attacker was apparently impaired by drugs or alcohol. Not sure if the OP was too.

Maybe the OP could've landed a punch as the fiend was being pulled off of him. A little satisfaction...

If the OP is a woman then this really sucks and I feel for you. You should not be victimized by some vagrant drunk and the cops should have arrested this thug. That is on the cops and you did what you could to try to make the streets safer for others.

If the OP is a man, then you should have kicked the guy's a$$ when he was walking away. Once you realized the cops were going to do nothing about it I would have sneaked up on the drunk and knocked him to the ground and proceeded to kick him in the ribs. Applying a little street justice goes a long way.He would have learned his lessons and you'd feel like a hero. Instead, you kinda made yourself look like a bit of a wuss. Sorry man, not trying to be rude but telling it like it is.

Stomping the drunk into the ground would have been justified but then the OP would probably have been arrested and charged with assault. A no win situation.
