Because chain-link fences are cheaper and easier to install, and almost no maintenance is needed unlike
wooden fences that might rot or break in few years. Chain-link fences are not as aesthetically pleasing
in appearance, but it will last much longer and the most cost effective solution for the owners to keep
people from trespassing their properties. You know people can sue you if their kids somehow got hurt
on your property with no fences. Plus, you can't really compare Long island to the five boroughs of NYC.
As far as bars on the windows is mainly the first generation Asian immigrants thing, because they are
less secure in their new country/new home compare to the native NYers. And they are burglars favorite
target because they usually keep more cash and jewelry in their home compare to your average NYers.
So.... they are more vulnerable to bigger loss of valuable items in case of burglary. Therefore, many of
them built their home like a fortress if they can help it.

Go to Richmond Hill and Ozone Park. It's not just Asian immigrants.
Hi, ok not tryin to be rude. i actually think queens is much cuter than the rest of NYC.
But i think Queens would look so much more glam if they ditched those fences. Those fences are a problem for all of NYC though. Its so sad, i was riding through there and it would've been so adorbs if those fences werent there: but until then, it wont be seen as classy like long island
And those metal gates in front of the stores are ugh too. I know its needed for security purposes but why not try the see through ones...much more glam.
What a generalized statement? Apparently you've driven through all of Queens uh? Long Island also has its fair share of chain link fences. I also believe that there are areas in Queens that are much more "classy" than areas on Long Island. Oh BTW, I'm not trying to be rude, but for goodness sake, work on your grammar. That would be "glam".
