Interesting, now they are going over the effects of raising the salary at McDonalds. New York started a TREND with these strikes against fast food places.
Fire them all and start hiring kids again. Other than managers, fast food was never a career. They already get exactly what they are worth: minimum wage.
I'm pretty pro Union and I would be in favor of the workers unionizing but I think $15 for a fast food worker is ridiculous. Even though they (the fast food corps) can afford it. I saw a study that was done on it. Rasing all salaries across the board for example at McD's, including even the CEO's salary would only mean about a .17 price increase for most menu items.
I agree with Airborneguy on this one. If you want to get paid more than minimum wage, then you better
learn some skills or get an education that's worthy to your employers. Everyone want to get paid more,
but the reality is low skilled workers will always get paid the lowest wages. It will not be fair if say working
at McDonalds can earn almost the same wages as teachers or nurses.
I agree with @NooYowkur81. $15 per hour at a fast food joint sounds like a LOT of money. Now, I can't say how hard it is working at a fast food restaurant since I've never worked at one, but it's not like employees are doing anything "great" to earn so much.. One just makes food, takes orders, serves, and that's it. It's not like fast food workers are doing a "special" service that can rake more money in, or provide some sort of extra care to their customers. But, I definitely think it should be raised; especially for those that have been working at fast food restaurants for a long period of time and haven't seen an increase in their pay.
I think I'll keep watch on this one as it's quite interesting, since I guess workers at fast food joints are finally fed up and taking a stand for what they believe and think is right..

and considering most fast food operations are totally automated. The kid frying up those McD burgers throws them on the grill and waits until some buzzer tells him to flip them. There is no need to think..McDonalds has done all the thinking for them.
Minimum wage is all they deserve. Strike all you want. McD's will simply replace them.
That $15 seems so wild to me that I wonder if it's doing them harm. People often start high as a negotiating point, but $15 makes them look delusional and/or insanely greedy. They'd probably get better results if they were requesting that there would be progressive $1 or $2 raises after a year.
McDonald's gave automatic raises every six months when I worked there during high school. As long as the worker's reviews were satisfactory, the raise was about .25-50 cents per hour, if I recall correctly.
I also worked at Burger King while I was in the Army because I thought I was smart and bought a car I couldn't afford. They gave raises similarly to McDonald's.
