at first i thought it was B Smith's Restaurant and Bar on 8th Avenue between 44th and 45th but they have been there since 1954. the sign says "Andy Murphy's" above. does anyone know where this is?

well that answers my question of were there hookers on 8th as far north as 49th street..

i suspected it was up in that area as there were a lot of Irish places around

was that on the Worldwide Plaza side of the avenue or the east side by that Gershwin Luxury building?

that storefront looks horridly tacky. i wonder what the restaurant was like inside...

East side; the Worldwide Plaza side was the previous Madison Square Garden.

The way I found the place was a NYT article about the conviction of the owner on gambling offenses (just the lead, because I'm too cheap to pay for the article)... I imagine the place was a seedy inside as it was outside.
