I need more information. What part of Manhattan are you living in? Are you in some type of rent regulated unit currently?
How does this matter? I never said I live in Manhattan. I rent in the center district of some city which is about as big as New York. However, if I get a new offer soon in the uptown I'll have to spend an hour every day commuting from downtown to uptown by subway and on foot in the morning and then another hour in the evening. This would be two quite tiresome hours. On the other hand if I found a place to live near the new office and moved I would be able to get to my new office within say 15 minutes. I could care less about weekends and holidays since I live in the city only during workdays.

It matters because comparing living in Queens vs Manhattan is surely very different than your city....

How can you know this? I know certain things about New York. However, you know nothing about the city I live in and you still make this conclusion. Our center is a place where most expensive apartments, restaurants, stores, offices are concentrated. It is the beehive of activity and the most premium part of the city. However, it brings you a zero value if you don't have enough time to sleep as you commute to your job from one borough to another.

Of course we know nothing about your city. It remains unnamed.

Again, you're assuming that "sleep" is as important to you as everyone else, and ignoring the points made about leisure activities on the weekend.

It remains unnamed for a reason. The question of this subject is not the city I live in but how easy people of New York (who rent, but do not own an apartment) are ready to relocate to another borough to save an hour a day on commuting.

So if you just want to hear other people's opinions and responses why are you arguing over their merits? Sounds like you're just trolling to me.

Leisure activities is an important part of life. The thing is though most of the people have them only two days a week while they have to work five days a week.
What do you expect me to do? To humbly agree with everything someone says even if his merit seems dubious to me?
Who are you to say whether someone's reasoning has "dubious" merit? The point is there are tons of people who simply don't care if their commute is longer--they want to live where they want to live. I already illustrated why an extra hour in my commute every day doesn't make any difference to me. Why is this so hard to understand?
You're statement--"The most premium place of living is that one that allows you to walk from your office to your home within say 15 minutes"--simply won't be agreed on by everyone. There are a lot of places to work that wouldn't be that great to live in NYC, and there are a lot of nice places to live that don't have a strong business presence.
