it does not even have that much to do with higher degrees .
earning higher wages only has to do with learning skills that are marketable and are harder to do . the things we can do for ourselves will always be low wage jobs..

in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.

if most of us had a disease that paralyzed our arms then those that could pour coffee would earn more than doctors.

the closer you get to skills anyone has the lower the pay.

the key is finding that career path where few are skilled.

college wasn't for me as i was doing fine as a pro drummer.

well little by little the disco craze took over and the handwriting on the wall said this was not a good career path.

soooooo i thought and thought about what i could do that others couldn't.

folks would rebuild car engines and build their own houses so alot of trade stuff was out.

i realized back in those days no one played with their ac units and commercial ac and refrigeration was almost a black art.

i came up with air conditioning and refrigeration tech.

i knew nothing about it but i borrowed the money to go to apex and had no clue how i would pay it back.

well i migrated through the years to control troubleshooter and eventually into a motor control specialist where i spent a solid 40 years of employment.

you need to be creative to earn higher wages and find that area of expertise others stay away from.

a degree is no help when hundreds or thousands of others can do what you do.

most degrees today do not have internships and those that do are so competitive that few have a shot at landing one. you can have hundreds or even thousands of graduates applying for the same few positions.

it took years for some of the law students that graduated with my son to find jobs. the field is just saturated so despite degrees there is still little work for so many . many of them that did not find jobs with internships had to take jobs in the 50k area with small law offices in long island . that is less than 1/2 of what you get starting with a decent law firm in the city or westchester.

where my son works starting pay if you are lucky enough to get selected is 110k but the competition is fierce for those jobs. some competitors pay even more .

the college diploma of today is merly the equal to the high school diploma whan i graduated in 1970.. it opens up the same lower level type jobs most of the time we got with just a high school diploma.

all a diploma means is you have the ability to learn , stay committed and can absorb what you are taught.

your degree can get you a lower level job or if you are a lucky a higher level job but by itself it guarantees nothing as far as your pay range.

.

Apple Store loves to hire very articulate AB Ambiguous Arts graduates for $14/hour.

they also have many many thousands of applicants and most not actually hired.

moot point about one business or even a few. nothing on the low end is influenced by them obviously.

Are there any Mcdonalds, Wendys, Taco Bell, Pop Eyes, KFC, White Castle, BK in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Parkslope Brooklyn. Or is it just Chiptole, Starbucks and a future ShakeShack waiting in the wings?

Even these places offer lousy pay albeit more attractive employees.

Yep. I eat fast food whenever I want. I can pretty much eat whatever, whenever I want because I work out a min of 90 min a day. Matter of factly, chicken nuggets with spicy mustard sauce sounds really good right now. What time to they start serving lunch?
