Hi y'all! I have a close friend who is spending her summer doing an internship with a major broadcasting network in NYC. She hasn't been able to go out and explore the city much and definitely doesn't have time to research fun things to do because she works such long days. And she's also there all by herself, no roommates or other friends.
I want to put together a little package for her, including a list of some things to do/places to see that aren't always at the top of a visitor's/tourist's mind when they're there or that maybe tourists don't really know about.
If anyone has any suggestions, that would really be great! She's a college aged student from Florida and loves dancing and being active (yoga), so if you know of any good and inexpensive dance and yoga studios where she could go, let me know! Where are some good places to eat? Or cool places for single people to go? Any nearby lakes, beaches, or outdoorsy activities? Art classes?
Thank you in advance, I know this will make her day!
I suggest that you make her a cute little package with two or three guidebooks, a bus map, and a subway map. If a booklet is available on the summer Restaurant Week, that would be good, but it's probably too early.
By the way, if she's new, she'll want to start with the touristy things.
I would start with the free music, Sumerstage concerts all over the city. Check out flavorpill.org for local listing of stuff every week.

Is E.101st and 2nd Ave in Manhattan, NY a high crime rate area
Most of NYC is relatively safe. That is the lower border of East/Spanish Harlem. I think during the day it is okay but I haven't been in that area recently.
