That is very strange. Usually Stuyvesant and Townsend Harris trade places as the top school. One thing I noticed about Brooklyn Latin that may have elevated it's rating is the low student teacher ratio.

There used to be only 3 SHSAT schools Stuy, Bklyn Tech and Bx Sci. Over the last 10 years or so several more were added. More seats for the students with scores below the old cutoff is a great thing.

My niece just graduated from this school in June and from what I understand they have a grueling homework load and take things seriously. (As opposed to the high school I went to which was a joke). She managed to get acceptance from every college she applied to, so I would say they do well in preparing students for the next steps. I know she told me a year or so ago they didn't have their own space yet as it was under construction and they had to share with another school.

The only reason I ever heard of it either was because of my niece going there. But the push towards charter schools is growing.

Brooklyn Latin is not a charter school. It is a NYC DOE public, magnet school with an entrance exam.Similar to other NYC specialized High Schools as well as to Townsend Harris High School,Eleanor Roosevelt and other public high schools without the specialized school test but with highly selective admissions requirements.

That is correct. It was founded in 2006.

Brooklyn Latin is one of the 8 specialized high schools in NYC. These schools require the SHSAT exam for admission. The cutoff scores are based on the number of available seats in each school. The 8 schools are:

Brooklyn Latin
Brooklyn Tech
Staten Island Tech
Stuyvesant
Bronx HS of Science
High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College
High School of American Studies at Lehman College
Queens High School for the Sciences at York College

People are vying for seats at these schools so much that they begin preparing for the test in the 3rd grade. If you live in NYC, you should get to know these schools.

Why is this one so high on the list with average SAT score only 1424? Did I miss something?

Looks like the HSs are ranked by a 'College Readiness Index'.

Our Lady of Angels area located in Kingsbridge has a sizeable Filipino populations. Hard to believe though...

Except that some of the new specialized high schools have a higher cutoff than the old cutoff/have a higher cutoff than one of the original three (http://www.theschoolboards.com/showt...cores-for-2014). Now, to be fair to Brooklyn Tech: it has a relatively "low" cutoff score given the sheer size of the student body. That says, the point still remains.
