I need assistance.... I live in the Bronx Baychester area.... I rented an apartment from my sister no lease is involved... We had a family disagreement and to get back at my mom & I she raised our rent in July..... We had another family disagreement in August she raised it again with an eviction notice.... The eviction was served August 6 to be evicted by September 30, 2013. I do not have money for a lawyer or is in the position to get a new apartment by then.

What are my options?

Wow, either your sister is very evil or you are leaving part of the story out as to why she wants you out.

Yes..and in the process ruin your credit, have a housing court eviction on your record, and ruin your housing options for the next 10 years. You can listen to Kefir and ruin yourself, or you can listen to me and just find another place to live. You will be happier, and still maintain your credit in the process...there are other ways to drive your sister nuts without hurting yourself.

Either apologize to your sister, even if she is wrong, since she owns the building; or, find a new apartment. However, if you apologize to her, you will have to walk on eggshells around her, lest she become upset over something else. I would look for a new place to live because the issue is that your sister is petty and vindictive, regardless as to the whole story, because a family disagreement should not result in a manipulation of rent and serving one's sibling and mother with an eviction notice. The situation will not improve and you have to worry about another increase or eviction notice if she is the least bit upset, such that you may consider limiting contact once you move from her apartment.

NEVER rent without a lease...NEVER rent from a relative.
In fact the ideal landlord is one you never see or hear from (except perhaps for the funeral notice.)
