Sorry for what should be such a simple question. I'm trying to buy what I think is called a button battery - a small round one for a clock. I've asked at a few electronics places like B&H and P.C. Richards, and at my 47th Street watch-repair place. Nothing. What's a good place to try - preferably between Houston and 57th in Manhattan?

CVS/Duane Reade? Do you have the battery in question that needs to be replaced?

Try local jewelry and watch repair places. They usually have them. The watch repair place probably had them but wanted to do to the replacement not just sell you the battery.

I've seen them on a display rack at one of my local hardware stores, next to all the other batteries. Many different sizes.Maybe you should try a bigger such hardware store.

Exactly.I've experienced this. They want to charge you $25 to open up the watch with their "special tool" that is really just a screwdriver.

Is that what they charge these days?

I have not had a watch worthwhile enough to replace the battery on in years.

You could also check out any nearby branch of Radio Shack.
